KINGSPORT — In a battle between two struggling basketball teams, Sullivan South did all the little things it takes to win.

The Rebels controlled the glass, battled for every loose ball, and locked down Sullivan Central’s offense on Tuesday en route to a 59-43 victory, their first Big 8 Conference win of the season.

“Before you can go out and get the job done on the court, you’ve got to believe,” South coach Mark Pendleton said. “Hopefully this is the start of many more big nights.”

After trailing early, the young Rebels used a 12-2 run to grab a four-point halftime lead. They never trailed in the second half, although the Cougars did close to within four points on a 3-pointer by Clinton Hall with 4:47 remaining in the contest.

But South responded with a 10-0 run to send the crowd home happy on homecoming.
