'Toppers stave off Tribe, stay perfect in Big 8

KINGSPORT — Science Hill coach Ken Cutlip made no bones about it: His basketball team was outplayed by Dobyns-Bennett on Friday night.

But the Hilltoppers somehow found a way to outscore the Indians and escape the Buck Van Huss Dome with a 68-64 victory to remain undefeated in Big 8 Conference play.

“I felt like they were quicker to the basketball, quicker to the floor, and for a big part of the game, they outworked us,” Cutlip said. “We’re very fortunate to come over here and get this win on the road.”

The Hilltoppers trailed 64-63 with 1:40 remaining before scoring the final five points of the game to prevail on a night when hot shooting and highlight-reel dunks were enough to overcome a slew of miscues.
