Indians win, lose on Day 2 of Grindstaff Thanksgiving Classic

JOHNSON CITY — Inexperience and inconsistency usually go hand-in-hand. Dobyns-Bennett’s basketball team certainly proved that point on Friday in the Grindstaff Thanksgiving Classic at Freedom Hall.

The Tribe forced 20 turnovers en route to a 73-67 victory over Stone Memorial only to turn around and commit 24 turnovers in a 64-59 loss to Cocke County. The Fighting Cocks took full advantage of D-B’s miscues, scoring 48 points in the second half to overcome a 13-point deficit.

“We just didn’t do a very good job of taking care of the basketball and defensively, we didn’t do a very good job keeping them in front of us,” Tribe coach Charlie Morgan said. “They got some penetration on us there and then we didn’t have any interior defense.”
