Vols' Poole says the time is now

KNOXVILLE — Teammates at Tennessee have seen Tauren Poole’s work ethic and dedication for years on the practice field and the weight room. His old high school coach saw those qualities in more unlikely surroundings.

Like a Dairy Queen parking lot.

Back in November of 2007, Poole’s Stephens County High School team had gotten home very late the night before from a playoff win on the road. Early the next morning, Stephens County coach Travis Noland met Tauren and his mother, Nina, to drive up to see the Volunteers play LSU.

Noland arrived in the parking lot at 6:30 in the morning to see Tauren sitting in his mother’s car, wide awake, and doing his trigonometry homework.

“I just thought it said so much about how focused he is as a person,” Noland said.
