PULASKI, Va. — Every time the Kingsport Mets and Pulaski Mariners have squared off this Appalachian League season, it’s resulted in a blowout.
Thursday was no exception.
The Mariners (20-17) tallied an 11-3 win, taking the opener in the three-game series in resunding fashion.
Kingsport (17-20) has lost three straight since a four-game winning streak came to a close.
Starter Eduardo Aldama (1-1) and reliever Peter Birdwell allowed all 11 runs. Aldama got chased with one out in the fourth inning after yielding four runs on five hits and five walks.
Birdwell, the second of three K-Met relievers used in the game, got blasted for seven runs — three earned — on four hits in two innings.
Cleanup hitter Jose Rivero was 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs.
Kingsport’s Javier Rodriguez had two doubles as part of a three-hit effort to boost his average over the .330 mark.
The K-Mets still trail Johnson City and Elizabethton — tied atop the West Division — by six games.
Kingsport’s three-game series with Pulaski renews tonight.
