KINGSPORT — Dobyns-Bennett’s Turf era began on a high note Thursday night.

Unveiling their artificial surface, the Indians defeated Tennessee High 42-13 with a blockbuster effort by tailback Justin Sylvester and a physically imposing offensive line.

Sullivan North 34, David Crockett 6

KINGSPORT — Everyone expected Eric Pearcy to quarterback Sullivan North’s football team when the 2008 season kicked off Thursday night. Pearcy got only a few snaps under center, but still made plays. And he wasn’t the only one.

Virginia High 19, Sullivan Central 17

BLOUNTVILLE — What you see during track and field season doesn’t always carry over to the gridiron. Sometimes, it does. Erstwhile track star Anthony Jones blasted off for a 92-yard kickoff return late in the fourth quarter to lift Virginia High to a 19-17 win at Sullivan Central Thursday night.
