Bases-loaded walk in eighth gives league win to 'Blazers

GRAY - Nick Caldwell scored on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Daniel Boone to an 8-7 Big 9 Conference win over Volunteer on Monday.

Dylan Pratt led the Trailblazers (19-9, 10-6) with two home runs and three RBIs, while Nick Jones collected a pair of hits.

Josh Aldridge (5-2) took the mound in the seventh inning to grab the win.

Jake Parker finished with three hits for Volunteer, while Cody Byington went 2-for-3 at the plate.

BLOUNTVILLE - Logan Bowers went 3-for-5, including a three-run homer and a double, and had five RBIs to propel the Patriots over the Cougars in the Big 9 Conference finale for both teams.

Matt Shepherd went 5 1-3 innings on the mound for East (16-9, 10-6) to pick up the win.

Central's Carl Roberts was 3-for-3 and belted his sixth home run of the season, a three-run shot in the third. Zach Nussman and Peter Mociran added three hits apiece for the Cougars (16-14, 5-11).

KINGSPORT - Nick Moore was a one-man wrecking crew for the Golden Raiders, going 4-for-4 with seven RBIs as North outslugged the Deacons (9-5) in non-conference play.

Brandon Morelock and Brandon Black also had two hits each for North (13-16) while Matt Summey (6-1) threw five strong innings to earn the win.

EWING - The Generals got their offense going early to post a convincing non-district win over the Pioneers on the road.

Adam Burke picked up a home run and three RBIs on two hits for Lee High (8-2), while Brandon Woodard finished with three hits.

Thomas Walker's Mikey Pauley had a homer and finished with two RBIs, while Travis Hall recorded two RBIs on as many hits.

CASTLEWOOD - The Blue Devils jumped ahead 6-0 after two innings and never looked back in their non-district victory over the Pioneers.

Matt Phillips went 3-for-3 with two home runs and five RBIs to pace Castlewood (9-5). Eric Maxfield also finished 3-for-3 and Andrew Kennedy collected two hits, one of them a double, and an RBI.

Drew Justice (3-2), who had two hits and an RBI, pitched three innings to record the win.

BIG STONE GAP - The Vikings put up eight runs in the bottom of the third inning on their way to a non-district win.

Josh Spurlock's three-run homer was the highlight of the big third inning for Powell Valley (7-6).

Gill Lusk was 4-for-4 with three RBIs for the Vikings while Lucas Fannon added a pair of hits.

Jared Hensley and Jacob Arwood each had two hits for Rye Cove (1-12).

POUND - The Lady Wildcats scored a run in the first and last innings to down the Lady Raiders in dramatic fashion in this Lonesome Pine District tilt.

Lakrisha Isaac finished with two hits and had the game-winning RBI in leading Pound (7-6, 3-4) to the victory. Brooke Stidham plated the Lady Wildcats' first run on a fielder's choice.

April Hamilton scored J.I. Burton's only run.

BIG STONE GAP - Marie Chandler fanned 17 batters in helping the Lady Vikings secure the shutout of the Lady Bulldogs in LPD action.

Holly Gilliam finished 2-for-2 to pace Powell Valley (12-4, 7-3). Keisha Perry also had a pair of hits.

Erin Wilson took the loss for Appalachia.

JONESVILLE - Hard hitting by Lee High and seven Cawood errors led to a blowout non-district win for the Lady Generals.

Lee High's Kala Rutherford went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, while Kristi Cress connected for a pair of doubles and Lauren Hatfield went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The Lady Generals (6-6) scored 10 runs in the first inning and added 11 in the second while the Kentucky school managed just one run on three hits.
