COMMERCE, Ga. - Ashley Force is going for a Sunday drive with her dad - at 300-plus mph in the NHRA Southern Nationals. The 24-year-old rookie will face 58-year-old John Force today at Atlanta Dragway in the first-round of Funny Car eliminations, the first time the father-daughter teammates have raced against each other. "A lot of drivers might be intimidated by him," Ashley said Saturday. "But to me he's just dad. If anyone is going to be nervous, it's him. He'll be so worried about me and all the things he thinks might happen that I think it'll be hard for him to focus." Rod Fuller, Mike Ashley, Greg Anderson and Angelle Sampey were No. 1 qualifiers in their divisions at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series event.

Karstens has broken leg after getting hit by liner

NEW YORK - The New York Yankees lost another starting pitcher Saturday when Jeff Karstens was hit by a line drive, breaking his right leg. On his first pitch of the game against Boston, Karstens was hit on the side of his knee by Julio Lugo's liner. He won't need surgery and is expected to return this season, the team said. It was the latest injury for the Yankees, who already are missing starters Mike Mussina (hamstring) and Carl Pavano (forearm).

BARCELONA, Spain - Two-time defending champion Rafael Nadal beat fifth-seeded David Ferrer 7-5, 6-1 Saturday for his 71st straight win on clay and a place in the Open Seat Godo final against Guillermo Canas. The 12th-seeded Canas beat Agustin Calleri 7-6 (1), 6-7 (5), 6-2 in an all-Argentine match.

CINCINNATI - The Reds acquired minor league reliever Marcus McBeth from Oakland on Saturday as part of a trade made a day earlier, and designated left-handed reliever Rheal Cormier for assignment to the minors. Cincinnati dealt outfielder Chris Denorfia to the Athletics on Friday for two players to be named. On Saturday, they received the 26-year-old McBeth.

Oklahoma State's Curry to enter NBA draft

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State junior guard JamesOn Curry plans to enter the NBA draft but will not hire an agent. Curry told The Oklahoman he will attend the NBA's predraft camp, which starts May 29 in Orlando, Fla. The 6-foot-3 guard from Pleasant Grove, N.C., was the Cowboys' second-leading scorer last season, averaging 17.3 points. He also led Oklahoma State in assists at 3.7 per game.

Kenya's Wangai wins Country Music Marathon

NASHVILLE - Simon Wangai of Kenya captured the Country Music Marathon on Saturday in his first-ever appearance in the race. Wangai finished in 2:13:52, a full minute over runner-up and fellow Kenyan Laban Moibens' time of 2:15:10. Olena Shurkhno of the Ukraine was the first woman to cross the finish line, with a time of 2:37:52. Wangai and Shurkhno each earned $17,500.

BULLS GAP - The Fastrak Late Model Racing Series event, originally scheduled for Saturday at Volunteer Speedway, has been moved to today due to inclement weather. The pit gate will open today at noon, with the grandstand gate opening at 1 p.m. Racing action is slated to get under way at 4.
