Leonard's early shot sets tone in Cougars' win over Junior Bucs

JONESBOROUGH - Will Leonard hit a three-run homer in the first inning for Sullivan Central, and the Cougars continued to score early and often in an 18-3, five-inning victory over University High on Saturday.
The Cougars (16-14) pushed across seven runs in the first inning and eight more in the third to make this contest a short affair.
Justin Hess (5-3) scattered six hits and struck out seven to pick up the win for Central.
Leonard was 2-for-3 with five RBIs while Zach Nussman went 4-for-4 for the Cougars, who finished the game with 21 hits.
Carl Roberts and Peter Mociran had three hits each for Central with Cody Hyden, Justin Presnell and Drew McLaughlin chipping in two apiece.
GRAY - The Trailblazers scored in every inning, blitzing the Chiefs in non-conference action.
Dustin Ford connected on a three-run home run in the second inning. He also had three runs scored.
Jordan Bowser also had the hot hand for Boone (18-9), finishing 3-for-4 with a team-high four RBIs.
EWING - The Pioneers blasted 29 hits that produced 21 runs as they swept the War Eagles in a Cumberland District doubleheader.
Thomas Walker pitching allowed only two hits in each contest.
Leading 3-2 in the opener, the Pioneers (6-6, 4-2) scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth to put away the game. Mikey Pauley (3-2) had nine strikeouts to pick up the win. He also went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.
Brett Clouse was 4-for-4 and also had two RBIs.
In the nightcap, Thomas Walked opened the game with six runs in the first and never looked back. Zack Hensley (2-2) got the victory on the mound for the Pioneers while Jordan Hatfield was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Travis Hall went 2-for-2 with four RBIs.
