Arnold pitches complete game for Volunteer in Big 9 victory

CHURCH HILL - Volunteer's Shaun Arnold allowed just one unearned run and went the distance as the Falcons notched a 10-6 Big 9 Conference baseball victory over Tennessee High on Monday.

Arnold (2-3) scattered six hits for Volunteer (9-10, 3-9), which benefited from a 3-for-3 effort by Matt Fleenor and Dylan Frazier's 2-for-3 performance.

Jon Krebs hit a three-run home run for Tennessee High (3-18, 1-11) as part of a five-run fourth inning.

JOHNSON CITY - Sullivan East was no match for Paul Hoilman, who posted a three-hit shutout at the Patriots' expense.

Science Hill (22-4, 11-1 Big 9) scored four runs in the fifth to break open the game, then plated one more in the bottom of the sixth to end it via the mercy rule.

Hoilman also homered for the Hilltoppers.

BEN HUR - The Lady Generals scored three runs in the third inning and five more in the fifth to down the Lady Eagles in non-district play.

Lee High's Danielle Shackleford turned in a two-hit, two-RBI performance, while Lauren Hatfield garnered three RBIs on a triple.

Bethany Rupert scattered five hits in seven innings to grab the win for Lee.

WISE - The Lady Bulldogs' defense allowed one run on five hits in a solid Lonesome Pine District win over the Lady Indians.

Lauren Howard went 3-for-5 with five RBIs to pace Appalachia. Pitcher Erin Wilson fanned eight in six innings of work.

Kalen Collins (3-7) took the loss for J.J. Kelly (4-8, 2-5). She led the Lady Indian batters with two hits.

BIG STONE GAP - Four errors led to three unearned runs, helping the Lady Knights' cause in pursuit of the LPD regular-season title.

Coeburn (11-1, 6-1) led 6-0 after scoring twice in the second, adding three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth. Hannah Light (11-1) struck out 11 Lady Vikings. Samantha Perry paced the Lady Knights offensively with three hits and an RBI.

Rebecca Durham notched two of the nine hits recorded by Powell Valley (8-3, 4-2), which also got an 11-strikeout performance from Marie Chandler.
