No. 1 Lady Vols rout Tenn. Tech

KNOXVILLE - Tennessee's top-ranked softball team continues to pick up steam.

Tonya Callahan blew some off Tuesday evening.

Callahan led off the fifth inning with a history-making solo home run as the Lady Vols trumped Tennessee Tech 12-0 in five innings at Tyson Park.

It was Callahan's seventh homer of the season and 31st of her career - a new UT record.

Megan Rhodes (10-1) allowed just one hit and struck out 12 to pick up the victory.

The Lady Vols (40-2), who have won 18 straight, hit the road this weekend for a vital three-game Southeastern Conference series at Georgia.

ATHENS, Tenn. - The Lady Cavaliers bounced back from an opening game defeat to split their Appalachian Athletic Conference double header with the Lady Bulldogs (13-15, 4-4).

Shelley Newton blasted a solo home run for Virginia-Wise (16-15, 6-2) in the first game. Lauren Sneed took the win for Virginia-Wise in the nightcap, while Newton, Britney Lawson and Amber Quillen finished with three hits each in the twin bill.

PIKEVILLE, Ky. - Brad Robbins smacked three home runs and collected in seven RBIs in two games as the Cavaliers split their doubleheader with the Bears (17-16-1).

Robbins (2-2) earned the pitching win in the opener for Virginia-Wise (19-8-1). Matt Begley (2-2) suffered the second-game loss.
