CHUCKEY - The road to the TSSAA state wrestling tournament runs through Chuckey. Athletes from across Northeast Tennessee will gather tonight for the opening matches in the Region 1 wrestling tournament being held at Chuckey-Doak High School.

Tonight's competition, which begins at 6 p.m., includes the round of 16, quarterfinals and the first round of consolation matches.

Saturday's wrestling begins at 10:30 a.m. with winner's bracket semifinals and the second round of consolation matches. The finals and consolation matches will start at approximately 5:45 p.m.

Dobyns-Bennett will have several wrestlers entering the regionals as top seeds.

The Indians' Austin Mann is seeded No. 1 in the 112-pound weight class with brother Adam ranked second at 103 pounds.

D-B's Ben Davis enters the tournament as the top seed in the 189 weight division with Daniel Preston atop the ladder at 215.

"I feel like we're going to do a good job," D-B wrestling coach Buzzy Mann said. "We've had so much adversity this season with injuries and illness, but right now I think the guys are focused on what's ahead of them."

Dobyns-Bennett's competitive schedule this season hasn't always produced team wins, but invaluable experience has been gained by all the Tribe wrestlers.

In many of the weight divisions, only the top three wrestlers will advance to the state meet.
