Prep roundup: Clinch races to record 13th victory of season

EIDSON - Sometimes 13 is not so unlucky.

The Clinch boys basketball team continued adding to its school record for wins Saturday by defeating Wise County Christian 68-35.

Dustin Murrell pumped in 19 points to pace the Wildcats, who are now 13-10 on the season.

Derek Seal chipped in 12 points and Mike Lamb added 10 for Clinch, which led 38-14 at halftime and 56-18 after three periods.

Andy Bledsoe had 16 points and Cody Bartkoski 12 for Wise Christian (1-14).

Powell Valley 44, Haysi 36

BIG STONE GAP - Cedric Mitchell dropped in 16 points as the Vikings won a defensive struggle over the visiting Tigers.

Powell Valley (11-9) fell behind early before outscoring Haysi 12-5 in the second quarter.

Nathan Boyd had a game-high 21 points to lead the Tigers.

Abingdon 58, Sullivan East 40

BLUFF CITY - Nick Viers led the way with 13 points and the Falcons picked up a non-conference victory over the Patriots.

Dillon Faver paced Sullivan East (11-17) with 10 points.

Lighthouse Christian 67, Wise Christian 40

GATE CITY - Chase Vickers had 17 points and 14 rebounds and Chris McMurray added 14 points and 14 boards as the Knights pulled out a win.

Lighthouse (17-3) pulled away by outscoring Wise Christian every quarter and cruised to victory.

Grant Belcher and Nicholas Bagnall led Wise with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

GirlsPowell Valley 31, Haysi 28

BIG STONE GAP - The Lady Vikings built an early lead than had to fend off the rallying Lady Tigers' in the second half.

Powell Valley (9-10) led 25-16 at the half but went cold in the final two quarters and allowed Haysi back into the contest.

Brette Harding and Tessa Burton led Powell Valley (9-10) with nine points each.

Abingdon 66, Sullivan East 57

BLUFF CITY - The Lady Falcons built an 18-point halftime lead and held on to beat the Lady Patriots.

Karie Jackson led the Lady Falcons with a game-high 30 points. Jessica Keck paced East (8-19) with 14.

Shelby Valley 56, J.J. Kelly 43

PIKEVILLE, Ky. - Esther Fleming poured in 30 points for Shelby Valley (17-3), which sent the Lady Indians home with a loss.

J.J. Kelly (13-6) jumped out to a 13-8 lead but were outscored 16-8 in the second quarter. Kalen Collins scored 12 points for the Lady Indians.
