PORTLAND, Ore. — Flirting with a third consecutive victory in the Little League Softball World Series, Daniel Boone ran into big trouble in the bottom of the fifth inning.

That’s when Eastbank of River Ridge, La., enjoyed an eight-run outburst before polishing off a 9-2 victory in the championship bracket’s quarterfinal round.

Boone, which broke even (2-2) in pool play to advance to this stage, held a 2-1 edge before the Southwest representative cut loose. As a result, the Gray-based team (Southeast) finished in a tie for fifth in the world.

A walk, error and Kira Manganello’s single enabled Eastbank to quickly load the bases in the fifth. From there came a two-run double from Lauren Mounce, putting Louisiana in front.

Ava Burkett (single), Raegan Porche (groundout) and Rachel Noullett (single) each added an RBI before an inning that included four Boone errors concluded.

With Kyleigh Bacon smacking a leadoff triple and Kayleigh Quesinberry a one-out RBI double, Boone opened the scoring in the first inning.

It was 2-0 after Anna Richardson walked to begin the second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and steal, then crossed home plate on a Riley Croley base hit.

Eastbank got on the board in the third as Damari Harris singled home Olivia Ianetta, who had hit her way aboard and moved to third.

Croley paced a five-hit Boone output with a 2-for-2 showing, while Ava Saul, Bacon and Quesinberry contributed one hit apiece.

Seven Eastbank hits were divided among seven players. Mounce went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a walk, plus she went the distance from the pitching circle.

Boone pitcher Kayleigh Musser went four innings. She was replaced by Quesinberry after facing four batters in the fifth.
