ELIZABETHTON — Elizabethton jumped on its Carter County rival early and often Monday evening.

The Lady Cyclones made quick work of Happy Valley in the second round of the District 1-AA softball tournament, winning 15-0 in five innings.

Elizabethton advanced to play Unicoi County, a 10-0 winner over Sullivan East on Monday, today at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Warriors and Lady Patriots meet at 7 p.m. in a win-or-go-home game.

Macie West had a game for the ages for Elizabethton, going 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in the first inning and a fourth-inning grand slam. She finished with seven RBIs.

West’s early bomb was part of a four-run first for the Lady Cyclones. Lauren Brickey picked up the other RBI with a double.

UNICOI COUNTY 10, SULLIVAN EAST 0, 6 INNINGS

The Lady Blue Devils jumped out to an early lead and rode pitcher Halie Padgett to victory in the other winners’ bracket semifinal. Padgett also hit a three-run home run — a no-doubter to center field — in the bottom of the first inning.

Unicoi County blew the game open with six runs in the bottom of the sixth to enact the run rule.

The Lady Patriots tallied only one hit against Padgett. It came in the first off the bat of Jana White.

JOHNSON COUNTY 6, SULLIVAN SOUTH 4

Johnson County edged Sullivan South in a wild losers’ bracket game that saw the Lady Rebels’ season come to an end.

In the fourth, South pitcher Taylor McConnell launched a solo home run to start the inning. South added another run in the inning off a series of Johnson County errors.

The Lady Longhorns didn’t go away, grabbing a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth, and pitcher Hannah Brooks launched a three-run home run in the sixth for the dagger.

Brooks recorded the complete-game win, striking out two.

Allison Chapman clubbed a two-run home run for the Lady Rebels. Taylor Wexler scored twice and was 2-for-3.

McConnell went the distance for South, striking out six.
