ELIZABETHTON — The District 1-A softball tournament at Ronnie Hicks Field opened with a pair of blowouts.

After Kensington Dailey keyed University High’s 10-0 conquest of Sullivan North, Kenzie Birchfield hurled a no-hitter in Cloudland’s 14-0 thumping of Hampton.

The winners advanced to the double-elimination portion of the tournament. North and Hampton were eliminated.

Piling up 11 strikeouts in pitching a two-hitter, Dailey aided her cause with a 2-for-2 effort that featured a grand slam. She also walked twice and scored two runs.

Macy Falin went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for the Lady Bucs, Sydney Trosin was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Ryleigh Owen scored and had an RBI.

Gracie Monk and Makayla Estep accounted for the Lady Golden Raiders’ hits.

Cloudland and Hampton tossed aside the run rule for their contest, so Birchfield’s no-hitter was a seven-inning job. If not for an error that allowed a Lady Bulldogs batter to reach base, she would have authored a perfect game.

In addition to recording seven strikeouts, Birchfield contributed offensively by going 2-for-3.

Krisi Bare went 3-for-3, Rein Strickland and Gracie Cook both were 2-for-3 and Leah Birchfield socked a three-run, inside-the-park homer.
