Big 7 Conference
First things first, Daniel Boone and David Crockett have to settle the issue for first place in the league. The showdown in Gray should have a big say in how things are decided. Science Hill is also hanging around, and the Lady Hilltoppers should help make the district tournament an interesting event.
Region outlook — Morristown East likely presents a problem for whoever comes out of District 1. The Lady Hurricanes are 25-2, although one of those losses was a 1-0 decision against Daniel Boone. Jefferson County and Morristown West are also in the mix.
Sectional view — Powell appears to be the biggest challenge for Region 1 advancers. Other top squads include (in order): Farragut, William Blount and Hardin Valley.
Three Rivers Conference
Elizabethton has pretty much wrapped up the league title with its two wins over Unicoi County. The Lady Blue Devils and Sullivan East are battling for a No. 2 finish.
Region outlook — Grainger appears to be at the head of the class from District 2. Greeneville is probably the best bet to join the Lady Grizzlies with Claiborne also in the mix.
Sectional view — It’s all about Gibbs once again. The perennial state title-chasing Lady Eagles were in Class AAA for a few years but have slipped back to torment Class AA teams once again. They are 27-6 with their losses coming against out-of-state teams or Class AAA squads, including a recent 5-0 loss to Powell. The other main threats include Kingston and Alcoa.
Watauga Valley Conference
There’s Unaka and then there is a big gap. The Lady Rangers are head and shoulders above their league opponents this year.
Region outlook — Cosby and Greenback look like the best bets to reach the region, but neither of them figures to be able to stand strong against Unaka.
Sectional view — Sale Creek (22-4) is certainly among the front-runners. Tellico Plains owns a recent win over Sale Creek. Coalfield is also in view.
