Washington County, Virginia, in the Civil War TCCWRT program Monday

KINGSPORT - Civil War historian, tour guide and author Michael Shaffer will be the guest speaker at The Tri-Cities Civil War Round Table sponsored program “Washington County, Virginia, in the Civil War,” Monday, beginning at 6:30pm in the Eastman Employee Center, 400 Wilcox Drive, Room 219.
Despite no major battles taking place on Washington County, Virginia, soil the county served as a key supply source for Confederate armies and even sent six generals into the service of the cause, including such notables as Joseph E. Johnston and William E. “Grumble” Jones.
Join Shaffer as he reveals the wartime story of the county and some of the generals it produced.
Shaffer is a member of the Society of Civil War Historians and Georgia Association of Historians. He serves as a Civil War consultant for the River Line Historic Area.
He holds BA and MA degrees, with honors, in Military History – Civil War studies and is currently teaching Civil War courses at Kennesaw State University's College of Continuing and Professional Education and is the assistant director of the university's Civil War Center.
The program is free and open to the public.
