He was a lifelong resident of Scott County and was the son of the late Oscar and Loria Strong Gibson.
He was retired from Scott County School System Maintenance Department and a U.S. Army veteran.
Mr. Gibson was a loving and devoted, hardworking husband, daddy, and papaw.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Inez Gibson; son, Michael Wayne Gibson; and daughter, Amy Michelle Gibson.
He is survived by his daughters, Sherry Layne and husband Robert; Tammy Jennings and husband Carl; Kim Gibson and fiancé Don Shoemaker; son- in-law, Walter Smith; grandchildren, TJ Casteel, Kayla Warren, Tyler Gibson, Cheyenna Campbell, Cody Hammonds, Morgan Campbell, Garrett Layne, Gregory Layne, and Piper Shoemaker; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, June 15, 2019, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, VA and other times at the residence of Sherry and Robert Layne. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Dennie L. Haynes officiating. Music will be provided by Dennie L. Haynes, and David and Debbie Easterling.
Burial will follow in the Gibson Family Cemetery, Snowflake, VA weather permitting with military honors by American Legion Post #3/265 and Virginia National Guard. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews and special friends.
The family extends special thanks to the Veterans Administration Hospital at Mountain Home, TN.
