Matthew Cameron Austin Morelock

BIG STONE GAP, VA - Matthew Cameron Austin Morelock, 24, passed away Monday, May 13, 2019 at 6:10 AM at the Holston Valley Medical Center ICU.

Matthew was a 2013 graduate of Union High School and a 2015 graduate of Mountain Empire Community College, where he earned an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. He previously held positions for Food City in Big Stone Gap, Lonesome Pine Hospital as a security guard, and Sykes as a Customer Service Representative.

Matthew was preceded in death by his mother, Brigette Denise Bruner, maternal Great Grandparents Paul and Minnie Davis, maternal Great Grandparents Frank and Aurora Bruner, Great Aunt Carolyn and Uncle Junior Comer, Great Aunts Janie Patterson and Sarah Jefferson, Great Uncles Bennie, Charles, and Frank Bruner, Paul Davis, Jr., cousins Kristi Comer, Janina Jefferson, Robbie Patterson and David Patterson, paternal Grandparents Hazel Pearl and Ira Everett Morelock, Great Aunt Minnie and Great Uncle Arthur Newton, Great Aunt Etta and Great Uncle Bill Wells, Great Aunt Bessie Lovell, cousins Johnny and Derrick Morelock.

Matthew is survived by his father, Michael Stephen Morelock, brother Alex Morelock, maternal Grandparents Paula Davis and Larry Bruner, Aunt Shannon Cooper, Great Aunts Vickie Wampler, Ann Davis, Becky Rogers, Donna Davis, Teresa Sturgill, Uncles Keith, Jerry, Steve, Dennis and Russell Davis, cousins Savanna, Ryan, Makenzie, Cody and Rori Cooper, Howard Comer, Richie Jefferson, Missy Huff, Frank and Rudy Patterson, Jim Morelock, Patricia Rao, and Joyce Wright and family, soon to be step-mother Frances Neaves, and That Good Boy Levi.

Matthew's big heart, generosity, and good-natured spirit touched everyone he met. His creativity led him to his hobby, creating and trading dioramas with group members with similar interests all over the world.

A memorial service for Matthew will be conducted on Sunday, June 2nd at 2pm at the Looney Creek Memorial Baptist Church, Inman Road in Appalachia Virginia with Eddie Kilbourne officiating. He will be laid to rest privately afterward at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.
