Ray Lynn Trent

KINGSPORT - Ray L Trent, 86, of Kingsport, TN, passed away on Friday, September 14, 2018.

He was originally from Coeburn, VA. Ray was known as a hard worker and a good provider, working from age 14 until age 80, first as a bus driver, coal truck driver, and after a few years in the coal mining industry, he became a tractor trailer driver with over 4 million miles driven. He retired several times only to begin working again, driving for Clemens Limo Service, Penske and Holston Valley Hospital.  

He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Betty Powers Trent; his parents, Richard and Arline Carpenter Trent; as well as 3 sisters and 5 brothers.

He is survived by wife, Betty Bays Teague Trent; 3 daughters, Ruth (Chuck) Simons of Greenville, SC, Joyce (Alan) Hilbert of Greenville, SC, Alice (Robert) Hite of Jonesborough TN; 2 sons, Ray (Mary) Trent, Jr. of New Lenox, IL and David (Bobbie) Trent of Kingsport, TN; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; Betty’s children, Pam (Richard) Brown and Jeff Teague; 2 grandchildren; a great granddaughter; 3 sisters; and 4 brothers.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, September 17, 2018, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Tom Phillips, pastor of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at Temple Hill Cemetery in Castlewood, VA.
