Her life journey ended peacefully with her 4 cats, 2 dogs, husband Chuck, and daughter Hazel at her side.
Born in Kingsport on May 2, 1951 to parents Clarence & Edith Olinger. She and Chuck lived in rural Hawkins County for 23 years.
Elaine was an art teacher at Surgoinsville Elementary for many years before she retired. She held a BA from UT Knoxville and Masters from MTSU.
She was an outdoor person and her 5 daylily gardens were a pride and joy. She & Chuck also enjoyed hiking, backpacking, canoeing, & RV camping. Hunting Island, SC was her favorite destination.
Elaine is survived by her brother Danny, sister Nina, daughter Hazel (Robert), grandsons Graham and Gabe, also our sons Chris (Melissa), David, and grandchildren Reid, Eliza, and Jones.
Elaine was a lifelong craftsman where she practiced spinning, dyeing, weaving, and quilting. She made amazing pizza, loved cannoli, enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate with a scoop of coffee each morning. She was able to finish all 4 seasons of Grace & Frankie and made a final visit to Hunting Island.
A celebration of her life will be August 4 at Surgoinsville FUMC on Old Stage Rd. Service will begin at 11am with a light lunch to follow in the Ministry Center.
In lieu of flowers, she has asked that a donation be made to Surgoinsville FUMC for sanctuary improvements.
We would like to extend a special thanks to hospice nurse Ashley Skeen for her love and care. She is now part of our family.
