Dolly was a lifelong member of the Andover United Methodist Church. She worked in many grocery stores in the area including Cas Walkers in Appalachia, and Piggly Wiggly in Big Stone Gap, VA. Her last “job” was assisting her son at Lion and Lamb Karate Kids in Big Stone Gap. She always had a big smile for everyone she met and will be surely be missed.
Mrs. Bandy was preceded in death by her parents, Grat & Dottie Hatfield, her brothers Drew and Bernard Hatfield and her sisters, Dessie Ferguson and Gladys Pruett, all of Coal Mountain, West Virginia.
Dolly leaves behind her loving husband of 65 years, Tommy Bandy, her sons, Barry T. Bandy (Jeanne), Dryden, VA, and Terry Bandy (Sherry), Big Stone Gap, VA and her grandchildren, Jessica Nichols and Seth, Mary, Lee, & Jedidiah Bandy. She is also survived by a very special niece, Karen Ferguson, East Stone Gap, VA, several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 5:00–7:00 pm in the chapel of Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave. W., Big Stone Gap, VA. The funeral service will follow with Pastor Tony Nunley, Assistant Pastor Garvey Collins and Pastor Rick Phillips officiating. Graveside services will be at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens, 5650 Powell Valley Rd., Big Stone Gap, VA on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 11:00 am. Those serving as pallbearers will be Buddy Sampson, Rusty Sampson, Rodney Parsons, Ralph Honeycutt, Don Honeycutt and Lowell (Cotton) Gardner, Jr. Nelson Vance and Mike Smith will be serving as honorary pallbearers. Those going in procession to the cemetery are asked to assemble at Gilliam Funeral Home to leave in procession at 10:30 am.
