Steven Roger VanEss

KINGSPORT - Steven Roger VanEss, 55, of Kingsport, TN, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 3, 2017.

Steve was born on October 9, 1961 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to Roger and the late Sue (Evanoff) VanEss. In addition to his mother, Steve was also preceded in death by his nephew, Jonah John VanEss; uncles and aunts: Alvina, Harvey, Gladys, Irvin, and Phil VanEss and Vincent and Barbara Baker. Steve was a 1980 graduate of Cedar Grove High School, then attended the University of Wisconsin Green Bay, and later completed his IT degree at Northeast State in Tennessee. Steve married Penny Campbell on October 23, 1982 and to this union two sons were born. Steve worked for 35 years as a Systems Analyst for Eastman Chemical Company until his retirement on May 10, 2017. Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking, cooking, koi ponds, and indoor aquariums. He had a love for animals, especially his dogs. He also enjoyed raising pheasants. Steve was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and Nashville Predators.

Steve is survived by two sons, Benjamin VanEss of Kingsport, TN and Nicholas (Jennifer) VanEss of Jonesborough, TN; his dad, Roger VanEss of Cedar Grove, WI; sister, Brenda (Jerry) Depies of Cedar Grove, WI; brother, Calvin (Jean) VanEss of Belgium, WI; mother of his sons, Penny VanEss of Kingsport, TN; nieces and nephews, Kiera Depies of Minneapolis, MN, Kaili Depies of Mequon, WI, Nolan VanEss of Belgium, WI, and Logan Depies of Cedar Grove, WI; aunts and uncles, Beatrice VanEss, Lois VanEss, Chris Evanoff, George (Janis) Evanoff, and John Evanoff.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at East Lawn Funeral Home with a memorial service immediately following at 7:00 P.M. with Dr. Ed Crook officiating. Additional services will be held at the First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove, Wisconsin on Friday, September 29, 2017 at 6pm.
