When the neighbor called police on that same couple a second time, the couple went to his door after police had gone and allegedly beat and stabbed the neighbor.
The couple, Johnny Allen Richards, 33, and Erin Brooke Lawson, 32, are two of the Hawkins County Jail’s most frequent guests.
Since 2001 Richards has been arrested 45 times on charges including burglary, theft, domestic assault, drug possession, casual exchange of drugs, public intoxication, contempt of court and a variety of driving offenses.
Since 2001 Lawson has been arrested 31 times on charges including drug trafficking, theft, domestic assault, stalking, failure to appear and public intoxication.
According to sources in law enforcement, on Tuesday evening the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office was called twice to an apartment at 2930 Rt. 66-S near Rogersville on complaints of a loud domestic disturbance involving Richards and Lawson.
After deputies left the second time Tuesday evening, Lawson and Richards reportedly went to confront the neighbor who had called the law on them twice.
An assault on that neighbor allegedly ensued, after which the HCSO was called to the scene a third time shortly before 8 p.m.
At that time the neighbor told HCSO Cpl. Kenneth Ferguson that when he opened his door for the couple, Lawson allegedly hit him with a rake hard enough to break the handle.
Lawson then allegedly stabbed the neighbor in the arm with the broken handle.
“I did observe several lacerations on (the neighbor) consistent with how he stated he was injured,” Ferguson stated in his report. “There was blood on the end of the rake handle that was recovered at the scene. (The neighbor) stated the Mr. Richards hit him with a 2-by-2 stick, and it was recovered at the scene.”
Ferguson added, “There were several witnesses who gave a statement consistent with (the neighbor’s) statement.”
Richards was charged with aggravated assault. As of Thursday he remained held in the Hawkins County Jail without bond.
Upon further investigation it was determined that although the first “loud disturbance was apparently just loud sex, the second “loud disturbance” was related to an actual domestic.
Lawson had allegedly struck Richards in the head with the same 2-by-2 stick that was later allegedly used on the neighbor.
Lawson was initially charged Tuesday evening with aggravated assault against the neighbor. Wednesday morning she was additionally charged with another count of aggravated assault against Richards.
Lawson, who was intoxicated, reportedly fell in the drunk tank and injured her forehead.
As of Thursday Lawson remained held in the Hawkins County Jail without bond.
