Kingsport man shot as wife shows off gun via Skype

An attempt to show off a new gun and laser sight ended with emergency responders at a Kingsport home, where a resident reportedly shot her husband while Skyping with their daughter.As of Wednesday afternoon, the man remained hospitalized in good condition. Kingsport police detectives are investigating the incident.A report at the Kingsport Police Department states that shortly after midnight Wednesday officers responded to a home in the 2000 block of Patton Street. Upon arrival they found the male resident, 54, sitting in the driveway. He was applying pressure to a gunshot wound to his upper right thigh.When asked what had occurred, the man said he purchased a Ruger LCR .38-caliber revolver over the weekend. His wife was reportedly on the Internet Tuesday night — and "attempting to show it to their daughter via Skype" — when the weapon discharged.The victim was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center by EMS. His wife, also 54, corroborated his account of events — adding that she was specifically attempting to show their daughter the laser sight when the gun fired.A police report notes that the woman immediately dialed 911 after the incident. A detective was called to the hospital to investigate further. No charges have currently been filed.
