Dr. Allison Macfarlane, chairwoman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and Alexander took part in a routine tour of NFS. Macfarlane was sworn in as chairwoman of the NRC in July 2012. She was nominated by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the Senate to a term that expired June 30, 2013. On July 1, Macfarlane was reconfirmed for another five-year term.During Monday's visit, Macfarlane and Alexander not only toured NFS facilities but also received presentations by NFS management on the facility and its operations, and they also had the opportunity to meet and talk with employees. Macfarlane said NFS is an "interesting facility," and she noted recent safety and security upgrades at NFS.Read more at the Johnson City Press.
