Man faces Sullivan County statutory rape charges

A Jonesborough resident is currently jailed in Sullivan County, accused of raping a juvenile on several occasions over the past year.Records filed in a Sullivan County court in Blountville state Phillip Luke Adkins, 24, was indicted Tuesday by a Sullivan County grand jury. He faces six counts of statutory rape by an authority figure and other charges related to sex crimes against the juvenile. According to Sullivan County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Leslie Earhart, five months ago the allegations against Adkins were brought to police. The incidents reportedly occurred in Sullivan County. Court documents state the assaults against the victim began in April 2013 and continued through January of this year.Adkins was arrested on Thursday evening. As of Friday afternoon, Adkins remained held in the Sullivan County jail on $100,000 bond.
