PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium has reached a settlement with the family of a 2-year-old boy who was fatally mauled when he fell into an exhibit there in 2012.Details of the agreement between the family of Maddox Derkosh and zoo officials will remain confidential, according to a joint statement from both parties.Maddox was killed Nov. 4, 2012, after he fell into the African painted dogs exhibit and was mauled. His parents sued the zoo, alleging it had been warned about safety concerns with the exhibit several times by employees prior to the incident. The zoo had said the accident was the fault of Maddox's mother, Elizabeth Derkosh, of Whitehall, who lifted him atop a railing so he could see the animals more clearly.
