A team composed of greater Kingsport area homeschool students has won its fourth consecutive district High School Mock Trial Competition and will represent the area at the state competition in March.
Unicoi County High School finished second, also earning a bid to the state championship tournament in Nashville. Johnson City’s Science Hill High School placed third.
Eleven teams from across the area gathered at the George Jaynes Justice Center in Jonesborough Feb. 15 for the competition, sponsored by the Young Lawyer’s Division of the Tennessee Bar Association and coordinated by the First Judicial District’s Erin McArdle.
Local attorneys and judges volunteered as judges for the competition.
Students on the winning team are Blountville residents Emma Ayers and Andrew Carver, the later of whom received individual recognition as an outstanding student-attorney; Isaac Emery of Kingsport; sisters and Colonial Heights residents Emma Greene, who was selected as team MVP, and Olivia Greene; Luke Isbell of Rock Springs; and Stephen Shepherd from near Colonial Heights.
The Tennessee State Championship Tournament will be held in Nashville March 14-15.
