Church Hill man killed in trailer fire

CHURCH HILL - A Church Hill man was killed in an early morning mobile home fire in Church Hill.

Around 12:41 a.m., Sunday, Church Hill Public Safety was notified of a structure fire at 340 Silver Lake Road, Lot 77.

CHPD assistant chief Roddy Miller and Officer Ethan Mays arrived on the scene at 12:44 a.m. and reportedly observed smoke and flames visible inside the trailer.

According to a CHPD report, Miller and Mays made entry into the trailer and found the victim lying in a hallway near the back door.

They pulled the victim out of the residence. Church Hill EMS transported the victim to Holston Valley Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The Church Hill Fire Department arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire and conducted a thorough search of the residence. No other occupants were found inside the residence.

The victim was identified as : Paul E. Byington, 63, 340 Silver Lake Road Lot 77, Church Hill.

Preliminary fire investigation shows the fire started in the living room of the trailer at or near the couch. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
