Hawkins County Sheriff Ronnie Lawson said the victim, 32-year-old Sara L. Davis, was listed in stable condition Sunday evening at Holston Valley Medical Center.
Her alleged shooter, Rodney Allen Bailey, 31, 423 McMinn St., Rogersville, remained held in the Hawkins County Jail Sunday on $750,000 bond.
Shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday, Hawkins County deputies were dispatched to a shooting at Davis’ residence at 397 Manis Road, which is located in the Choptack community just west of Rogersville.
“Responding deputies were advised that a white male had forced his way inside a residence, a female had been shot, and an altercation had occurred between the shooter and a visitor at the residence,” Lawson said. “Upon arrival at the scene, deputies found Ms. Davis had been shot once in the upper torso by the subject, who had forced his way inside the residence. During the course of the investigation, deputies learned that Ms. Davis and (her guest) Ronnie Chet Williams, were in the bedroom when they heard someone enter the back door of the residence.”
As Williams approached the bedroom door, Bailey allegedly kicked the door open and struck Mr. Williams in the head with a pistol.
Bailey then allegedly fired a single gunshot striking Davis.
An altercation ensued between Williams and Bailey, and Williams was able to take the gun away, at which time Bailey fled out of the house.
At some point during the altercation Davis called 911.
Lawson added, “There were deputies in that area when the call came in, and they arrived on the scene pretty quickly and took Mr. Bailey into custody on the Davis property.”
Davis’ two children, ages 9 and 7, were inside the residence when the shooting occurred.
A search of the property revealed that a tire on Williams’ vehicle had been slashed.
Bailey has been charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, especially aggravated burglary, two counts of felony reckless endangerment, and possession of a firearm in commission of a felony.
Bailey is scheduled for arraignment in Hawkins County Sessions Court Wednesday morning.
