Charles Henry Bradley, 38, of Big Stone Gap, and Douglas Perry Oneill, 56, of Norton pleaded guilty Monday to charges of robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery resulting from the incident, which involved the theft of prescription medication.
Oneill is scheduled to be sentenced in Scott County Circuit Court on April 18, while Bradley’s sentencing is set for May 19.
The trial for Christy Dawn Lee, 34, of Big Stone Gap — the third suspect in the case — is pending. Her next court appearance is set for March 10.
According to the SCSO, the charges against both men stemmed from an incident that took place in the early morning hours of May 25, 2013, at a residence on Purchase Ridge Road near Duffield.
Scott County authorities said Oneill and Bradley forced their way into the 57-year-old man’s home before beating and robbing him of medication.
The men reportedly bound the victim with a combination of duct tape, wire and tubing before ransacking his home and making off with an undisclosed amount of prescription medications.
Although the victim was bound, authorities said he was able to free himself just enough to make his way to a neighbor’s home several hours later. The victim was treated for injuries, including several broken ribs, he suffered in the break-in.
The Wise County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation.
Bradley reportedly escaped from police custody in June 2013 while being held for the Duffield robbery and beating.
Bradley allegedly escaped while being loaded into a transport van with other prisoners at the Wise County courthouse. Officers were attempting to load Bradley into a waiting van when he “kicked free of his leg restraints” and fled, authorities said.
Bradley reportedly evaded custody for nearly eight hours before being recaptured.
