The rock slide occurred during the night, about three-quarters of a mile from the Bays Mountain Park gatehouse, according to Kingsport's director of Community and Government Relations, Tim Whaley. The slide made a majority of the access road impassible.
The slide was located north of the gatehouse and north of the area where road repairs were made two years ago. No one was injured by the slide.
While the park has reopened, the nature center will remain closed the remainder of the day, a park official said. The park and nature center will be open regular hours on Saturday.
