BLOUNTVILLE — If you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at local government, 2014 could be your year.

Among local offices on the ballot in August are all 24 seats on the Sullivan County Commission. Pay: $7,400 per year.

As a whole, the commission meets once per month, typically for about half a work day. Each commissioner also is assigned to one of the commission’s three primary committees — which meet monthly — as well as, potentially, one or more other committees, some of which meet only when required for a particular matter of business.

Sullivan County’s 24 county commissioners are elected by district. There are 11 districts.

As of Friday afternoon, 19 incumbent commissioners had either picked up or filed paperwork with the Sullivan County Election Commission indicating they plan to run for re-election.

They are joined, so far, by some former commissioners along with some newcomers.
