JC police charge N.C. woman in Dempsey's jewelry heist

JOHNSON CITY — Police have charged a North Carolina woman with stealing more than $90,000 worth of rings from a Johnson City jewelry store, and more arrests are expected.
Kingsley Michelle Perkins, 28, 631 N. Mclin Creek Road, Conover, N.C., was identified as the woman who took three rings from Dempsey's Jewelers, 3018 Peoples St., on Jan. 29, Johnson City police said in a news release.
Police said Perkins asked to see three diamond engagement rings — each three to four carats — and as she tried them on, she grabbed the rings and ran out the store. A police report indicated the woman took three rings — one valued at $45,000, another valued at $25,000 and one valued at $23,800.
