Elderly Blountville woman raped, robbed

Police are searching for a gun-wielding man who allegedly raped and robbed an elderly woman in her Blountville home, then stole her vehicle and dropped her off at a convenience store. The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office says the incident was reported shortly after 11:30 Thursday night. It occurred at a home on Clark Place, where the victim was awakened by a male voice as she slept in bed. The white male, who allegedly held a handgun and concealed his face, told her to turn over. SCSO Public Information Officer Leslie Earhart says the victim was then raped by the suspect, who forced her to take a shower afterwards. Police report the suspect took cash and a 50-inch TV from the victim. He then forced her to get into her truck, driving her to a convenience store on Highway 126 and made her exit. She walked to a nearby home to seek help. The stolen vehicle was later located crashed along Vance Street in Bristol, Va. Earhart says Bristol, Va., Police conducted a search of the area but were unable to locate a suspect. The victim, who lives alone, was transported to Bristol Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. "She did sustain injuries, but in this case she's very fortunate that they're not more severe," said Earhart. Police are unsure of how the suspect made entry into her home. No signs of forced entry were observed. As of Friday morning police had yet to locate the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to immediately contact the Sheriff's Office at (423) 279-7330.
