Krystal sign to stay atop Chattanooga skyline

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — A large Krystal sign looming over the Chattanooga downtown skyline won't go away anytime soon.

The feisty southern burger chain has invoked a clause in its contract with the owner of the building housing the sign, Luken Holdings, that allows the red trademark to stay atop the building as long as the company's lease is active. The move comes even though Krystal vacated the building and moved its employees to an Atlanta suburb.

A financial services company, UBS now occupies the building. It plans to add 1,000 jobs in Tennessee and plans to replace the Krystal sign with one of its own. That switch was scheduled for this weekend, but has been stopped.

A Krystal spokeswoman told the Chattanooga Times Free Press the sign will come down eventually.
