Ailshie named to national superintendents' group executive board

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Lyle C. Ailshie, Ph.D. and superintendent of Kingsport City Schools, has been named to the Executive Comittee of the national superintendent association called the American Association of School Administrators..

Ailshie was sworn in as a member of the AASA Executive Committee July 10 as AASA, The School Superintendents Association, installed its officers for the 2013-14 year in a ceremony and reception held in conjunction with AASA’s 2013 summer governance meetings in Arlington, Va.

He has represented Tennessee on the AASA Governing Board for the past two years prior to being elected to the Executive Committee. Executive Committee members are elected from each of seven regions. Ailshie will represent Region Five, which includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

Each region elects at least two members. The other superintendent elected to represent Region Five is Brock Womble, of Taylorsville, NC.

The 22-member Executive Committee, elected by the Governing Board to represent each region, meets quarterly and conducts the ongoing business of the organization between the two meetings of the Governing Board.

Ailshie is entering his 32nd year in education, and his 14th as a superintendent. He began his service as superintendent of Kingsport City Schools in March 2012. He was named the Tennessee Superintendent of the Year in 2005.

He was honored by the Tennessee Educational Technology Association with its first, and only, Honorary Lifetime Member iaward n 2008. Ailshie and his wife Vanessa have three daughters, Tracie, Hilary and Karli, a son-in-law, Tyler Neas, and two grand-daughters.
