Man gets 10 years in sex-trafficking case for bringing Mexican teen to Knoxville

A federal judge on Wednesday ordered a man who arranged to bring a 16-year-old Mexican girl across the border in return for sex to serve 10 years in prison.

U.S. District Judge Tom Varlan sentenced Jose Santos Argueta to a decade behind bars for setting up a tryst with a teenage girl he met on the Internet.

According to a plea agreement drafted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Melissa Kirby, Argueta met a girl he knew was 16-years-old and lived with her family in Mexico.

“In November 2010, (Argueta) started to discuss meeting (the girl),” Kirby wrote.
