Update: Man charged with trying to kill pregnant girlfriend while boarding Johnson City Transit bus

Johnson City police arrested a Massachusetts man suspected of trying to kill his pregnant girlfriend and the couple's unborn child as they started to board a city transit bus, according to a department press release.

Sanders L. Dixon, 22, 38 High St. Apt. 101, Springfield, Mass., was charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder. According to police, Dixon stabbed the woman, still unidentified by police, in the back. In the release, police said the two had recently been involved in an argument.

The stabbing happened around 9:30 a.m. Monday at the corner of Watagua Avenue and Baxter Street. The bus had stopped at the corner and the woman was getting ready to board when Dixon came up behind her and stabbed her.

A pregnant woman getting ready to board a Johnson City transit bus

Monday morning was apparently stabbed by a man standing behind her,

according to a witness.

It happened around 9:30 a.m. at Watauga Avenue and Baxter Street.

“This lady was getting on the bus and this man stabbed her in the back,” said Kevin West, who was on the bus at the time.

“She screamed and turned around and asked the guy what he did. When

she turned back around she had a knife in her hand, like she had pulled

it out of her back,” he said. “She said she was pregnant.”
