Tuesday night the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office responded to a complaint of possible drug-exposed children at 2100 Isaac Avenue, Lot 25, Church Hill.
Deputies identified Christopher David Hixson, 22, and Tina Marie Gilbert, 34, as the residents of the home. The children belong to Gilbert, and police weren’t sure if there is a connection between the children and Hixon.
Sheriff Ronnie Lawson said it was determined that the two children who reside at the home had been sent to stay the night with a relative.
“After explaining the complaint to the residents of the home, officers were invited in to investigate the complaint,” Lawson said. “During initial entry of the home, officers encountered numerous items of drug paraphernalia, such as smoking pipes, bongs, syringes, snort straws, gram baggies, pill crushers, as well as multiple spoons containing melted pill residue. The Narcotics Unit was then called to the scene.”
Lawson added, “During further investigation, narcotics officers located Diazepam, Alprazolam, as well as Buprenorphine in Ms. Gilbert’s purse.”
Gilbert and Hixson weren’t able to produce a prescription for any of the aforementioned controlled substances, and they both allegedly claimed ownership of the paraphernalia and controlled substances.
Officers also identified an additional female, who was visiting the home as Jodi Ward who had outstanding arrest warrants in Sullivan County. Ward was arrested on the Sullivan County warrants, and transferred into the custody of the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office.
Hixon and Gilbert were each charged with possession of Schedule III narcotics, two counts of possession of Schedule IV narcotics, simple possession of marijuana, maintaining a dwelling where narcotics are housed or sold, and possession of drug paraphernalia
As of Thursday evening Hixson remained held in the Hawkins County Jail under a $15,000 bond; and Gilbert remained held on a $10,000 bond.
The Tennessee Department of Children’s Services also responded to the scene and initiated an investigation pertaining to the residing children.
