Shortly after 10:30 p.m. Saturday Rogersville Police Department Officer Chris Funk responded to a citizen complaint of loud music and a possibly intoxicated driver in a blue Saturn at the Rogersville City Park.
Funk said he located the Saturn attempting to make a right turn out of the park onto Park Boulevard.
The music could be heard more than 50 feet from the vehicle, Funk said, and he conducted a traffic stop in the Big Lots parking lot.
The driver, who was identified at Travis Duane Shattuck, 26, 154 Cedar Hills, Rogersville, reportedly had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.
Officer Travis Fields assisted at the scene and conducted a pat down on Shattuck.
“Officer Fields asked him if he would remove the items from his pockets, and as he reached in the left front pants pocket Mr. Shattuck said, ‘Sh--!’,” Funk stated in his report. “Officer Fields asked, ‘What is it?’ to which Mr. Shattuck said, ‘marijuana’.”
Shattuck then allegedly produced a plastic baggy containing what appeared to be marijuana.
Funk added, “In his right pant pocket I felt an object and asked him what it was, and Shattuck said, ‘suboxone’. He handed it to me and I did locate two pills inside it with a cut straw.”
Funk determined, however, that one of the pills was actually Lortab.
Shattuck was charged with DUI, excessive noise from a vehicle, simple possession of marijuana, two counts of simple possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was released from jail Sunday morning on $5,750 bond and arraigned Monday in Hawkins County Sessions Court.
