Single-vehicle wreck in Lee claims life of Jonesville woman

JONESVILLE — Virginia State Police are investigating a single-vehicle wreck in Lee County that claimed the life of a Jonesville woman Thursday afternoon.

Authorities identified the crash victim as 48-year-old Cynthia Dotson.

She was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

According to VSP central dispatch in Wytheville, the wreck occurred at 4:11 p.m. roughly a quarter-mile west of state road 643 on a stretch of Alternate Route 58 between Jonesville and Duffield.

Dotson was traveling alone on westbound Route 58 in a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado pickup when she reportedly drove off the right-hand side of the roadway.

The truck reportedly struck a guardrail before hitting an embankment and rolling over onto its top, authorities said.

A motorist traveling behind Dotson’s vehicle witnessed the crash.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, according to VSP dispatch.

The Pennington Gap Fire Department and the Pennington Gap Rescue Squad were dispatched to the scene of the wreck. Officers from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Pennington Gap Police Department also provided assistance.
