Scott County officials said Blake Jeremiah Williams, 18, was taken into custody this weekend in Scott County before being released.
Authorities had taken out warrants for Williams’ arrest earlier in the week on charges of assault and battery and petit larceny in connection with the alleged incident, which occurred around 3 p.m. July 17 at the Overbrook Market near Weber City.
Police were reportedly able to identify Williams as a suspect after discovering his wallet had been left behind at the market.
According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Williams was inside the Overbrook when its owner reportedly observed him stealing several packs of cigars and a mosquito-repellent bracelet.
The merchandise was estimated to be worth $16.
Authorities said the store’s owner contacted Scott County Central Dispatch to report the theft before attempting to keep Williams from leaving.
Before officers arrived, Williams allegedly punched and wrestled with the store’s owner before fleeing into Tennessee.
