Scott County Emergency Management Director Jeff Brickey said much of the flooding was limited to the Gate City, Daniel Boone, Copper Creek, Little Moccasin and Hiltons areas of the county. Several houses were flooded, although Brickey said damage was minimal and no evacuations were needed.
Gate City Mayor Frances Perry said flooding also impacted the western part of town, with several intersections and Grogan Park under water at one point.
A quarry on the west end of town also overflowed its banks, a VDOT spokeswoman said.
According to VDOT, six roads in Scott County had to be closed Wednesday due to flooding. All but one of those roads — Browder’s Chapel Road from Route 693 to Route 696 — had been reopened as of 4 p.m. Thursday.
