Annetra “Jolene” Mayes, 25, 246 Byington Road, Surgoinsville, was charged with filing a false report.
She initially told the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office that her former boyfriend Hank Stubblefield had broken into her home, attacked her, and damaged the bathroom door.
Mayes later admitted to police that her current boyfriend, Dustin Ray Mabe, 24, same address, had assaulted her, and told her to blame Stubblefield.
HCSO Cpl. Chris Price stated in his report that Mayes admitted Mabe told her to “blame everything on Stubblefield due to Mayes renting her residence from Mabe’s mother.”
Price responded to Mayes’ home Monday shortly after 3 a.m. Monday on a complaint of aggravated burglary and assault.
Following Mayes’ initial report Stubblefield was taken into custody and questioned. An aggravated burglary conviction typically results in a three-year prison sentence.
But Stubblefield told Price he didn’t know anything about the incident at Mayes’ house, and didn’t even know where she lives.
When confronted with inconsistencies in her story, Mayes allegedly admitted that Mabe had struck her in the face during an argument, grabbed her in the shower, causing scratches, and damaged a bathroom door.
Mabe was charged with domestic assault. As of Thursday he remained held in the Hawkins County Jail on $2,000 bond with his next court date set for Aug. 14.
Mayes was released on $500 bond and will next appear in court on Aug. 14.
