North High School Assistant Principal Wayne King will assume the head spot at North Middle, which is located in the North High building, while Sullivan Gardens K-8 Vice Principal Darrell Moore is moving up to the top spot at that school in the Sullivan South High zone.
“Mr King is enthusiastic for the new challenge and ready to get to work,” Yennie said in the news release of King. He replaces Tom Bowers, who retired as North Middle principal.
“Dr. Moore brings strong leadership for the Sullivan Gardens community,” Yennie said.
Another principal’s position, at North High, remains unfilled. Veteran educator Richard Carroll recently retired after a 47-year career with the school system and having served as North High principal since 2001.
Carroll said part of his reason for retiring was that King, his “right hand man at the high school,” might be appointed principal of the middle school.
The release, from personnel supervisor Lib Sells, said the North position and other school-level administrative positions, would be filled in the next seven to 10 days.
Sells has assumed the duties of former human resources director Larry Hall, who recently retired.
The appointments create assistant principal vacancies at North Middle and Sullivan K-8, joining assistant principal vacancies at Ketron Elementary in the North zone and Bluff City Elementary in the Sullivan East High zone.
Former Ketron Co-Principal and 42-year educator Sandra Ramsey is not being retained at Ketron, and Yennie has said that an assistant principal position will be filled there, not a co-principal position.
At Sullivan K-8, Principal Zada Church retired, and North Middle Principal Jackie Wolfe, who was not tenured, was let go as a budget-cutting measure.
