Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to noon, Saturdays.
Admission is free.
“It showcases the very talented people we actually have that reside in Kingsport and the surrounding community, and it also encourages new artists to learn and to participate,” said KAG member Joan Holt, who’s chairing this year’s Fun Fest Art Show.
Fifty-nine artists have entered 110 pieces of art, some of which will be for sale. Many participating artists belong to KAG, but membership is not required to participate in the show.
Awards will be presented to the show’s winning artists during a reception from 2 to 4 p.m., today in the gallery.
The Best in Show winner will receive $400; second place is worth $300, and a third-place finish will earn the artist $200. Four $50 prizes for Excellent artwork will also be awarded.
Two ninth- through 12th-grade students will win a student award and $50.
The Celebrate Kingsport Award, worth $100, will be given to the artist whose work best portrays the spirit of Kingsport. Each work may only merit one award, but the Celebrate Kingsport Award is an exception and will be given to the designer of the piece that is most reflective of Kingsport, regardless of other honors.
Judging this year’s show is Ed Chitwood, a professor at Virginia Highlands Community College. He studied under Pierre Jerome of the Academes de Champimere, was a resident artist at the William King Museum and has worked with graduate students at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Sponsors of the 2013 Fun Fest Art Show are the Kingsport Art Guild; Hunter, Smith and Davis, LLC; First Bank and Trust; Wayne Culbertson Attorney; Valley Springs Spa; and Merle Norman.
Door prizes will be provided by Applebees, Charmed Southern, Lake Pointe Personalized Gifts, Posh Spa and Salon, and Style Custom Framing and Gifts. La Campina is sponsoring chips and salsa, and Little Cakes is providing cupcakes. KAG members will also be providing food that follows Fun Fest’s theme of “hot fun in the summer time.”
Founded in 1949, the Kingsport Art Guild showcases the visual arts and hosts lectures, classes and workshops for its members and for artists in the greater Kingsport area.
The Renaissance Center is located at 1200 E. Center St.
