The Tennessee Department of Transportation has been planning to repave a 3.14-mile section of Stone Drive, from Fairmont Avenue (the entrance to the Sevier Terrace neighborhood) to just east of Brookside Drive. The repaving would have been of all seven lanes and have taken place during the night.
TDOT opened the bidding for this project, and a number of other construction projects across the state, on May 24. The only bid submitted for the Stone Drive project was from W&L Construction at $2.5 million, which was more than TDOT’s original estimate for the work.
Mark Nagi, TDOT spokesman, said this week the project would be re-advertised for bids later this summer with the same scope of work.
If a bid had been awarded in May, TDOT had estimated the work would be completed by Oct. 31, 2013.
Stone Drive is one of the most heavily traveled roads in Northeast Tennessee with more than 30,000 vehicles driving along the road each day. The last time this section of roadway was re-paved was in 1993, according to TDOT.
